SAE Automotive Standards Tests

SAE International stands for the Society of Automotive Engineers International, meaning the Society of Automotive Engineers. SAE International is a global association of close to 1,000 engineers and related technical experts in the aerospace, automotive and commercial vehicle sectors. It produces mobility information and solutions for the benefit of humanity. Aviation, automotive and commercial vehicle sectors continue to change and develop. This change brings new and developing technologies and business applications together. SAE International develops technical information on all types of motor vehicles, including aeronautics, aircraft, automobiles, off-road equipment, marine vehicles, railway vehicles, trucks and buses.

The standards developed by SAE International in accordance with its vision can be grouped under the following headings:

  • AeroPaks standards cover more than eight thousand SAE aviation standards, specifications, recommended practices and resource documents.
  • Jpaks standards cover more than two thousand SAE ground vehicles standards.
  • Aerospace quality standards are a set of standards widely accepted by the aviation industry. It provides continuous improvement tools to support manufacturers and suppliers to remain compliant and to ensure the quality that customers demand.
  • J1939 standards are SAE International's standard family of controllers' area networks for heavy-duty vehicles.

These standards also include parts, equipment and systems. All of these standards promote innovation in the respective sectors and regulate the principles of design, production and interoperability. Production activities are based on consistency, high quality and maximum performance.

As automobile manufacturing technologies develop, so does the number of automobiles. This has led to more crests of energy requirements. In this context, especially the fact that fossil resources will be exhausted in the near future has necessitated more efficient use of energy reserves in the world. In order to make energy use more efficient in motor vehicles, one of the methods that can be applied is to reduce the losses during the use of vehicles. Theoretically, various forces acting on vehicles cause energy loss. Perhaps the most important of these forces is the rolling resistance force. The operating conditions that affect rolling resistance are speed, inflation pressure and load. If these forces can be controlled, fuel savings can be achieved in automobiles. These rolling resistance standard measuring techniques are included in the SAE J1269 and SAE J1270 standards:

  • J1269-200609 Rolling resistance measurement procedure for passenger cars, light trucks and road truck and bus tires

This standard applies to the measurement of rolling resistance of pneumatic passenger, light truck and road truck and bus tires in the laboratory. The procedure is only valid for the freewheel tires to operate in a steady state with zero slip and inclination angles.

  • J1270-201710 Measurement of rolling resistance of passenger car, light truck and road truck and bus tire

According to this standard, force, torque and power measurement methods are all in common use and should give the same test results. The effects of steering, traction, surface texture and stationary tire processing are excluded from the recommended applications as they are still in the research stage.

In addition to these two examples, there are thousands of standards designed and published by SAE International, and measurement, testing and analysis services are provided by authorized institutions in line with these standard criteria.

Our company also provides SAE standards testing services within the scope of other testing services. Thanks to these services, enterprises are able to produce more efficient, high performance and quality products in a safe, fast and uninterrupted manner.

SAE standards testing services provided within the scope of other testing services are only one of the services provided by our organization in this respect. Many other testing services are also available.
