The British Standards Institution (BSI) is the UK's national standards body. This organization not only produces technical standards but also provides certification services to enterprises. The British Standards Institute is a non-profit organization and offers global services in the areas of standardization, system assessment, product certification, training and consulting services. Today it is one of the world's leading standard organizations. It produces standards in a wide variety of sectors. Application rules and specifications cover management and technical issues ranging from business continuity management to quality requirements.

The British Standards Institute also supports organizations seeking to obtain a European Union CE mark. The CE marking is known as an application that states conformity with European Union norms and that the product meets the requirements of the applicable European Union directives.

Another important standard is the 27001 standard. BS British standards are standards which are not mandatory to comply with or apply to a few exceptions. To date, BSI has developed around a thousand 31 standard.
