In general, bacteria are living microorganisms consisting of a single cell. Bacteria can live and reproduce very quickly in plants, animals and the human body as well as in air, water and soil. Bacteria in humans cause pneumonia (pneumonia), bacterial meningitis, wound infections, laryngitis (inflammation of the vocal cords) and otitis (inflammation of the external auditory canal). Generally, bacterial infection refers to the growth of harmful bacteria in the human body.
Bacterial infections are contagious. Specifically, the most common bacterial infections are those related to food poisoning. For example, the bacterium escherichia coli, commonly known as e.coli, causes fever, vomiting, abdominal cramps and nausea. Salmonella bacteria show similar disorders. Listeria bacteria cause high fever, muscle pain and diarrhea. Elderly, pregnant women, children and people with weak immune systems are more affected by bacteria.
The ability of bacteria to infect the disease depends on the mode of transmission, the adhesion to the cell surface and the ability to spread to the tissues, the protective response of the body, and the length of time the bacteria can survive in the cell. These are called bacterial performance characteristics. Bacterial performance characteristics are tested in accredited laboratories.
Sub-groups of bacteria with genetic differences are called strains. Strains are used during bacterial tests. In general, strains used during the tests are:

- ATCC 10541 Enterococcus hirae
- ATCC 13311 Salmonella typhimurium
