Root Resistance Tests

Root Resistance Tests

Determination of resistance to root penetration EUROLAB (13948 European standard EN and EN 13948 test with root protection membrane, roof and waterproof primer layers and greenhouses for testing the resistance to the penetration of liquid surface treatment material according to the FLL rules for planning, construction and green roof maintenance, ISO / EN standards are a test performed in outdoor conditions.

DETERMINATION OF ROOT RESISTANCE ACCORDING TO EN 13948, TSE CEN / TS 14416
EUROLAB The European Scientific and Technical Center, the European notified body for construction products; It performs root penetration resistance tests to perform root resistance tests on waterproofing membranes according to EN 13948 norm.

During the test, the membrane (bitumen, plastic and rubber flexible plates, liquid applied kits…) is exposed to root penetration in test containers for a certain period of time. The containers are mounted in a modern greenhouse dedicated to climate control. CRITT Horticole provides experimental tools and performs the test in its facilities in accordance with EN ISO / IEC 17025 norm quality requirements.

EUROLAB works as test and administrative. As a TAB according to Regulation (UE) N ° 305 / 2011, TÜRCERT is informed for construction materials, so waterproof suppliers can use the test results for CE marking and other technical approval procedures.
EUROLAB has research and analysis accreditations.

DETERMINATION OF MEMBRANE ROOT RESISTANCE ACCORDING TO ISO / IEC EN
EUROLAB also performs root resistance testing on the membrane according to German FLL standards. This procedure encompasses root protection membranes, roofing and waterproof primer layers and liquid roofing materials of all types of green roofing (extensive and dense green roofs) and root penetration resistance analyzes of different test plants.

European norm EN 13948 Waterproofing membranes for roof insulation, bitumen, plastic and elastomeric membranes - Determination of resistance to root penetration »Replaces the FLL procedure.

For waterproofing covers used for roof gardens, resistance to penetration into root systems such as roots or rhizomes of plants is required in addition to the basic performance of waterproofing. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the root resistance of a membrane in advance for a real roof application. The test method, in which a tree or grass is planted in a container to which a test membrane is applied and then examined for root penetration, has been widely adopted.

However, the method takes a long time to achieve a result, and a simple test method for both users and manufacturers needs to be developed. It is well known from our experience that rhizomes of bamboo grasses are very dangerous for waterproof membranes.

You can work with our laboratory EUROLAB for root resistance tests.
