Electromagnetic wave is the wave generated by accelerated movements of an electric charge. As the electrical charge, which has to flow on any conductor, passes over different conductors and over different components, it emits a number of signals to the medium and these signals form a magnetic field. This magnetic field is a magnetic field perpendicular to the electrical field of the conductor around the conductor through which the electric current flows. In parallel with the change in the current of the electric current in the conductor, the conductor starts to make electromagnetic radiation.
Based on these definitions, an electronic medium is an environment composed of different electrical or electronic devices capable of emitting waves. Two factors determine the effectiveness of this electromagnetic environment: the frequency and amplitude of the waves.
EMI stands for Electromagnetic Interference in English and stands for electromagnetic interference. Various sources, such as radio frequencies (RF), microwave transmitters, electric arc welding machines, lightning strikes, electrostatic discharge (ESD), emit a number of electromagnetic noise signals, which affect devices with electronic components at different levels. This phenomenon is called electromagnetic interference.
While some of the mentioned noise sources emit electromagnetic pollution continuously or in certain periods, some emit electromagnetic pollution which is unknown when and to what extent.
In terms of electromagnetic compatibility, the exposure of an electronic device to electromagnetic interference is evaluated from four different points:
- Emission through radiation (RE, radiated emission)
- Immunity through radiation (RS, radiated susceptibility)
- CE, conducted emission
- Immunity through conduction (CS, conducted susceptibility)
Today, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) applications are regulated according to the limit values set by standards in order to ensure the smooth operation of electronic devices with different characteristics.
Our organization, UAF From the Accreditation Agency, Based on its accreditation authority in accordance with TS EN ISO / IEC 17025 standard, EMC conducts electromagnetic compatibility tests within the scope of electrical safety tests.
Why EMC Testing is Necessary;
When all electrical devices or installations are connected or close together, they affect each other. Interference between TV sets, GSM telephones, radios and nearby washing machine or power lines. The purpose of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is to keep all these side effects under reasonable control. EMC identifies all current and future techniques and technologies to reduce discomfort and enhance immunity.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive 2014 / 30 / EU ensures that electrical and electronic equipment does not cause or be affected by electromagnetic disturbance.
The EMC Directive, when used as intended, limits electromagnetic emissions from equipment to ensure that this equipment does not disturb radio and telecommunications and other equipment. The Directive also governs the interference immunity of such equipment and seeks to ensure that it is not disturbed by radio emissions when used as intended.
The main objectives of the directives are to regulate the compatibility of EMC-related equipment:
must comply with the EMC requirements when equipment (devices and fixed installations) is placed on the market and / or put into service.
Good engineering practice is required for stationary installations, although the competent authorities of the member organizations can implement measures in case of non-compliance.
